HISTORY

ZIIC (Cantonal Zone of Industrial Interest) of Biasca was founded in 1979 with the aim of promoting the economic and social growth and territorial development of the Municipality and its surrounding area. From the beginning, the Municipality, the Patricians’ Group of Biasca and Canton Ticino have been the main stakeholders involved in the project. ZIIC’s goal is to encourage the establishment of innovative and high value-added companies thus contributing to the creation of qualified jobs and to bring about positive economic impact. However, achieving these objectives must be accomplished through a balance between industry and the surrounding environment.

Between 2008 and 2011 the concept of Economic Development Poles (PSE) – promoting sectors with the support of services and infrastructure and through appropriate urban planning – took shape at cantonal level. Right from the start, ZIIC of Biasca was identified as a PSE, recognized by its distinct strategic position, its governance and its objectives set in relation to urban quality and sustainable mobility.

In the end, the Regional Development Agency of Bellinzona and Valleys (ERS-BV) has become a member of the stakeholders, joining the Municipality, the Patricians’ Group, and the Canton. The task of the ERS-BV is to implement the strategic decisions concerning the PSE in collaboration with a specific management committee that oversees its proper development.
